Founded in 1967, the company began its journey as the Golden Clipper, an innovative concept in full service hair care for men during a time when men traditionally visited their local barber shop for a cut and shave. With 3 Golden Clipper locations still a part of the chain, in 1973 the company transitioned into full service salons serving both men and women - the Head Shoppe was born!

Since that time, the company has grown to emcompass over 20 salons operating under four diverse brands, including one of Halifax's premiere medical spas, Vitality Medi Spa and Halifax's newest hotspot, HS Studio salonspa, boasting some of the most innovative salon and spa technologies and services east of Montreal. Salon Resource Group also includes the #1 training facility in Atlantic Canada, the Hair Design Centre. With over 250 associates throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Salon Resource Group is the largest single employer of beauty professionals in Atlantic Canada.

In 1994, the organization's current owner/president, Peter Mahoney, embarked on the next phase of the Salon Resource Group's journey. With a passion for improving the quality of life within the beauty industry and a vision to take the company to the next level of service excellence, Mahoney committed himself to the re-innovation of the organizational structure and began truly operating from the "inside out" - responding to the needs of the people and the desires of the clients. Empowering the associates with entrepreneurial spirit, the teams created their organizational value system from which all company goals and visions now flow. The values of PASSION, RESPECT, INTEGRITY, DEDICATION AND ENTHUSIASM (fondly known as P.R.I.D.E. to company associates) have produced outstanding results, with all time highs in associate retention and client satisfaction.

These innovative concepts in salon leadership proved so successful, in fact, that in 1998, a sister company, Salon Consultants International Inc. was created to meet the industry demand to share the secret of the Salon Resource Group's success. Since then, Mahoney and their team of trainers have been coaching and educating beauty professionals throughout Canada and the US to greater levels of personal fulfillment and profitability.
